“Antiques Roadshow” is straight from hell. At least, that’s how I’ve felt this week while getting rid of our earthly possessions. It is not that I’m attached to anything, but I wonder about everything we’ve inherited or acquired. “This could be worth something,” is my pavlovian response. I’ve seen too many “worthless” items that turn out to be worth thousands on the innocent-looking PBS show. Oh, and don’t get me started about “American Pickers!” I’m grateful that Christina is doing the lion’s share.
On the other hand, there is a sort of snowball effect as we clean out drawers and closets. The more we put in the Goodwill donation bag the easier it gets; we end up throwing loose change and maybe even some bills in the mix… Who cares what its worth – we need to get rid of it! It feels good to let go; every item that is hard to give up brings us closer to truly depending upon God. Have you ever dumped your worldly possessions for the sake of simplicity or portability? I highly suggest it! What a great adventure!
Quick update – the house is sold, we close Feb 1. Visas are still in progress. We hope to be in Beijing by the end of February.
